Position Summary Merrill Steel has an in-house 150,000 square foot climate-controlled paint shop allowing the painters to paint columns, trusses, I-beams and other structural steel surfaces using airless high-pressure paint guns. The types of paint applied include zinc, epoxy, and urethane. Projects also require complex coating systems such as corrosion resistant coatings and intumescent fire protection. The Paint Prep/Mixer Position assists the Painters by making sure the steel is prepped ready to be sprayed. They also mix the various types of paint using an air-operated mixer according to what the customer requests.

The next generation of ownership has become an ever-growing presence at the company. Our Plant Manager, Supervisors and Leads meet with Human Resources on a weekly basis to talk about ways to improve our shop culture. We even have an Employee Relations Manager who’s office is out in the shop to assist employees.

Flexible Scheduling: First shift employees have the option to start at 5, 6, or 7 am Monday – Friday. Fridays are flexible and Saturdays are voluntary. Second shift operates Monday – Thursday from 3:30 pm – 3:00 am, Fridays are voluntary. Second shift employees receive a night shift premium of $1.60/hour effective immediately. Volunteer Fridays, No weekends.
