Role Summary:
The Controller is responsible for the hotel’s accounting and financial management requirements. Provides the general manager with meaningful and timely information on the status of the hotel’s performance. Assists proactively with cost containment, revenue enhancement, profit improvement opportunities and safeguarding of the company’s assets.
Responsibilities:
As a member of the Executive Committee, oversee accounting and financial management of the property.
Provide the General Manager with timely and accurate data on which to make management decisions.
Compile accurate and meaningful financial statements.
Ensure proper controls are in place and monitor such controls.
Ensure the controls are minimizing losses and maximizing profits by retaining revenues, reducing expenses, and safeguarding hotel assets.
Coordinate budget preparation (in collaboration with Department Heads).
Prepare daily statements.
Post Ledger payments daily.
Process returned checks through Ledger and complete check requisition to reimburse bank. Send all returned checks that do not have valid credit card approval to collections immediately.
Clear Exec Off account daily. Verify division numbers on all departments.
Compile weekly reports.
Sign for, set up account for, and log advance deposits.
Answer guest questions (and conduct related research as necessary).
Post all charges, rebates, etc.
Administer 10-30 day calls on outstanding accounts.
Direct bill and maintain records for UPS, FED-EX, AirBorne, etc.
Handle credit card inquiries and charge backs. Reconcile credit card accounts.
Prepare and run write-off meetings at end of month.
Compile weekly status reports to sales and catering.
Process vouchers.
Formulate and execute a strategy to keep the Days Sales Credit Outstanding under 32 days.
Record all cashier overages and shortages. Publish cashier over/short daily to department heads and appropriate Leadership Team Members.
Participate in payroll processing and reporting.
Maintain open communication between subordinates, peers, and associates.
Train Accounting associate to perform their job duties to the best of their abilities while in accordance with established objectives, policies, and procedures. Evaluate and manage performance; conduct disciplinary action if needed.
Participate in Leadership Team meetings, property MOD program, weekly staff meetings, monthly department and safety meetings.
Administer and maintain accurate records of necessary federal, state, and local reports as required by the applicable laws, franchise SOPs, and Concord/local operating procedures.
Report any deviations of hotel policies, procedures, legal requirements, and contractual obligations to the General Manager.
Generate annual department budget and monitors period profit and loss statement.
Reflect high standards of professionalism.
Learn, understand, and refer to standard operating procedures.
Other duties as required.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Previous Controller or Accounting Manager experience preferred.
Previous experience in full-service hotel preferred.
Marriott experience a plus.
Compensation:
The starting annual pay range for this position is $70,000 and will depend on experience.
