THE MISSION OF THE SALVATION ARMY

Job Duties, Responsibilities and General Standards of Conduct
1. Dress Code: Bell Ringers are to dress appropriately for the weather. Bell Ringers are required to dress in a neat manner as follows: dark pants/jeans, layered clothing (if necessary for the weather) and a bell ringing apron. Employee’s personal grooming should reflect a clean and neat appearance with respect to hairstyles, makeup, beard, and mustaches. Jewelry should be moderate and businesslike and should not interfere with an employee’s work.
2. Breaks: Bell Ringers are provided a total of two (2) paid break of 15 minutes each and one-half hour unpaid meal break. Bell Ringers are required to take their breaks. Breaks and the lunch break are not to be taken consecutively.
3. Duties: Bell Ringers are required to stand outside the store at which they are assigned. Bell Ringers must adhere to the following:
a) Do not leave kettle unattended except during lunch and break time. b) Do not ask the store managers to move inside the store. c) Do not complain to customers or store workers about any matter including the weather. d) Do not engage in any conduct that would cause the store to lose customers including but not limited to harassment or making complaints. e) Do not allow friends or family to visit you at the kettle. f) Do not smoke, eat, drink, or use cell phones while on duty. Cell phones must be on silent mode. g) Dispose of any trash around your worksite. h) Do not smoke, eat, or drink in The Salvation Army vans or vehicles which transport you to and from the kettle location. i) Do be on time and ready to begin at your scheduled starting time. If you are going to be late, contact the Kettle Coordinator at least 2 hours prior to your starting time. If you are unable to attend work, you must provide at least 24 hours notice to the Kettle Coordinator.
4. General Standards of Conduct: The following general rules apply to Bell Ringer’s conduct. It is the policy that all Bell Ringers conduct themselves toward each other, donors and toward The Salvation Army in a proper manner. Improper employee conduct disrupts such an environment. The following are provided as examples of conduct which are improper and impermissible and will result in appropriate employee discipline at The Salvation Army’s sole discretion up to and including discharge. This provision does not modify The Salvation Army’s “at will” employment policy, nor is it intended to be a complete or exhaustive list of all activities which are prohibited by The Salvation Army, or which could result in employee discipline.

Dishonesty in the performance of job duties
Theft or Suspected Theft
Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol use while on the job
Damage or destruction of The Salvation Army or the store site’s property
Leaving the kettle site without permission while on duty
Inappropriate dress or grooming
Insubordination or failure to follow instruction
Harassment of donors, customers, or co-employees
Wasting time or loitering during working hours
Excessive absences or tardiness
Use of profanity or inappropriate language
Inability or unwillingness to work with others
Falsification of time records, and other information
Failure to perform job duties in a satisfactory manner
