Job Description

This position performs technician duties to support all units within the Office of Passenger Transportation (OPT). Responsibilities include but are not limited to compiling information and packages relevant to transit agencies, working within SIGMA on payments, closeouts, and other various tasks, assisting with reports and data entry into office IT systems required for various federal and state programs, coordinate the delivery of and response to correspondence received from external customers, and performing prescribed tasks on special office projects. This position is knowledgeable about policies, practices following federal and state transit programs, and office workflow, staffing, forms, procedures, and can assess analyze data and operations while making recommendations for change to MDOT’s passenger transportation programs that OPT administers, including local transit, intercity bus, and for-hire passenger regulation, to provide a safe and balanced statewide network of passenger transportation services to meet the social, safety, and economic well-being of the state.
The “Salary” listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (7) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (E9) level. Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a high school diploma or a GED Certificate. Experience
Departmental Technician 7
One year of experience performing experienced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service. Departmental Technician 8
One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
OR
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service. Departmental Technician E9
Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
OR
One year of experience performing advanced secretarial or supervisory administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

Alternate Education and Experience

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Deferred Compensation Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks. Retirement Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%. The Office of Retirement Services administers two different retirement plans for State of Michigan employees: Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC). New hires can also receive up to a 2% employer match into a Personal Healthcare Fund and a lump-sum credit to a tax-deferred account if eligible.
