DSHS WSH Religious Coordinator
Western State Hospital (WSH) is seeking a Religious Coordinator to manage spiritual services and programming for residents. In this role, you will personally provide religious services, spiritual consultation, and rituals as determined by the patient’s culture and/or faith tradition. Additionally, you’ll provide a patient care plan that supports the strategic direction of the hospital, regulatory standards, and evidence-based best practices.
Some of what you will do:
Deliver pastoral care to patients of all faith groups taking into consideration the cultural, ethnic, religious, and spiritual needs of the patient
Provide patients with religious items; prayer books, rosaries, bibles, etc.
Provide access to religious worship and sacraments that reflect the patient’s faith tradition
Prepare sermons for worship and group curriculum materials for spiritual-based patient groups
Provide pastoral counseling for patients having spiritual struggles
Coordinate volunteer-led religious groups for patients
Complete patient spiritual assessments and document them in the patient’s medical record
Administers sacraments and other religious/spiritual rites
Follow The Joint Commission standards specific to spiritual and religious services
Participate on interdisciplinary teams and patient care management committees as the spiritual care subject matter expert
Serves as liaison between the WSH religious program and community religious activities
Function as the Critical Incident Stress Management coordinator
Network and collaborate with appropriate community groups
What we are looking for:
A graduate degree from a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools and current certification by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education or National Association of Catholic Chaplains
Three years of experience as an ordained minister, priest, or other religious leaders such as rabbi, imam, Latter Day Saint bishop, or shaman of a nationally recognized faith
A Chaplain must be currently ordained and endorsed for chaplaincy by, and in good standing with, a nationally recognized religious body
Group facilitation experience
Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and the Recovery Model
Experience working in a hospital system, correctional institution, or psychiatric hospital
