Job Summary:
The Enterprise Data Management Director will join the newly formed office of Institutional Data, Analysis, and Planning. The offices of Academic Planning and Institutional Research (apir.wisc.edu) and Data Management and Analytics (data.wisc.edu) are in the process of joining together to form this new office that will leverage the strengths of the offices to advance using data to inform strategic efforts at UW-Madison.. The Enterprise Data Management Director will collaborate with enterprise-wide data programs to ensure alignment with data governance, analytics strategies, and the development of a UW-Madison integrated data warehouse. This role will partner with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) to plan and implement a modernized data technology platform(s). The Enterprise Data Management Director will oversee the work of the data warehouse team, including a warehouse architect, warehouse developers, and business analyst. This position will work closely with the DoIT and source system experts. The incumbent will play a key role in working with campus partners and stakeholders through two large projects moving UW-Madison to cloud architecture, including migrating the current InfoAccess data warehouse and data needs related to the Administrative Transformation Project (ATP). The person in this position will be an important collaborator with others at the institution to enable our university-wide strategy of becoming empowered by data.
Responsibilities:
Develops and directs the implementation of strategic plans for enterprise information technology (IT) function(s), program(s), or service(s) to ensure resources are utilized to provide effective administrative, research, outreach, and/or instructional information technology services. May directly manage IT services.
25% Directs strategic information technology planning initiatives and establishes objectives for the institution to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan
5% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
5% May develop and audit institutional budgets and/or financials
25% Serves as a liaison representing the interests of the institution to internal and external stakeholders
20% Advises institutional or divisional leadership on information technology operations and business models
10% May perform manager functions

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have a strong track record in data management, business analysis, and analytics projects. Leadership experience and demonstrated capacity to work effectively with all stakeholders of a complex university system are required attributes. Required: 1. Knowledge of best practices for and experience with data conversions and system integrations 2. Knowledge of data management; 3. Management and direct supervision experience, leading cross-functional teams of diverse individuals Preferred: 1. Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information, collect and research data, design workflow and procedures 2. Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in a cloud-based infrastructure, including experience with Snowflake, AWS Redshift, etc. 3. Knowledge of enterprise student, HR, finance, research administration business processes at UW-Madison or a similarly complex university or university system 4. A proven track record of leading teams to developing sustainable warehouse solutions that are well documented and understood throughout all levels of users 5. Strong problem solving and creative skills, along with the ability to exercise sound judgement in decision-making 6. Strong presence with senior leaders and ability to act as a partner and trusted advisor 7. Forward-thinking; ability to ground conversation in a vision for the future versus constraints of the current state 8. Strong communication skills – both written and oral – including the ability to communicate technical information effectively 9. Demonstrated commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace

Full Time: 100% This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
