Job Title
Graphic Arts Specialist
Job Function
Provides college-wide support in a fast-paced Graphics environment in both print and digital media by creating both individually and with other creative team members, end products that inspire, inform and captivate end users while meeting the needs of clients, adhering to College standards, and promoting the College’s brand.
Job Responsibilities
Works on various types of projects with assigned clients independently, and in collaboration with full- and part-time artists on all types of publication productions.
Interfaces with external printers and vendors on various productions from release to finished product delivery.
Directly participates in the technical production activities requiring a high degree of competency, from initial design to finished product.
Assigns projects to and supervises the performance of part time support staff, relating to creativity and production workflow, to meet scheduled deadlines.
Has responsibility for keeping graphic and related equipment in working order.
Maintains the necessary material inventory used in the graphic services area.
Initiates recommendations concerning policies and procedures for the graphic services area.
Provides job specifications on externally printed projects as needed for bid specifications to the Production Services Manager who develops bid specs for Purchasing.
May be required to sit on various college committees.
Systematically explores current graphic art developments inclusive of photography and desktop publishing, and relates said information to the needs of the Production Services Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.

TASKS
:
Provides idea and technical consultation relating to design, rendering and production, typography, material inventory supervision, set and scenic design; previews and critiques, planning, production conferences, attends press runs as requested, compiles printing specifications and graphic services reports as assigned.

: Reports to the Manager of Graphics and Production Services.

: Provides assistance and direction part-time staff as assigned. Oversee day-to-day assignments of department work study students and interns.
Education
Associate degree in graphic arts or related area.
Preliminary Qualifications
One year of work experience in the graphic arts and digital design fields with knowledge of Apple platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have creativity; advanced art skills; and knowledge of and be able to apply that knowledge to materials and equipment. Must have knowledge of photographic principles. Must have knowledge of legibility and size standards in art reproductions. Must have applied knowledge of desktop publishing equipment, software, file conversion software, and standards, as well as knowledge of printing principles and standards. Must have good interpersonal skills, ability to deal effectively with people on a one-to-one basis, taking a proactive position in guiding clients toward effective product design.
