Position Summary:
The Instructional Laboratory Assistant – Transportation provides services to students within the Transportation department that assist in the recruitment, retention, and academic, personal and professional achievement of students.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Observe, coach and assist students in the completion of homework assignments, lab assignments and class projects.
Setup and breakdown laboratories and assist with laboratory activities as assigned by the department’s instructors.
Train and track part-time laboratory assistants under the direction of the supervisor so that appropriate schedules and tasks are covered.
Assist with maintaining a safe laboratory working environment. Familiarity with OSHA and MSDS requirements.
Assist with inventory procurement and manage the department’s classroom, laboratory and maintenance supplies via scan tool and related software.
Support instructor’s needs by carrying out tasks and requests as assigned by department’s instructors.
Assist with the recruiting of students, may include visiting high schools to promote program, etc. with a special emphasis on underrepresented student population areas.
Assist with all required classroom/lab assignments, presentations, and student handout creation
Assist with promotional events and competitions
Understand the department’s course curriculum and objectives and relay info to students when needed.
Maintain lab and classrooms to ensure a safe work environment for students and staff
Maintain department inventory levels for all associated lab and classroom assignments
Maintain, troubleshoot and at times repair all laboratory equipment in the event of breakdown.
Other duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule: This is a Classified Faculty position, scheduled to work year-round, accountable for forty (40) hours per week. Hours vary based on class schedules—days, nights and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Associates Degree in Automotive Services or a closely related field or equivalent education, training, and laboratory work expertise as determined by the college.
Two (2) years full-time work experience in skilled area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Appropriate ASE credentials which showed evidence of competency in automotive servicing.
