Job Description :
Job Summary:

Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Technician for the SDC 2000 located at the Bluegrass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant Project located in Richmond, Kentucky.

Typical Responsibilities include:

Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees
Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations
May be required to work overtime or varying hours to include rotating shift work
Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record
Work in close proximity to and or in a chemical demilitarization facility
Work with other departments as necessary to cooperatively complete assigned tasks
Maintain housekeeping within assigned area
Assist with development, review and/or validation of all standard operating procedures associated with assigned duties
Assist with modification or revision to plant systems, equipment, and components
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts and specifications in the performance of duties to ensure system integrity is maintained
Develop technical solutions to maintenance related problems minimizing cost and schedule impact
Communicate technical information to management, peers and subordinates ensuring sound operations are not compromised
Follow predetermined checklists in performance of preventative maintenance of facility equipment and systems
Assure code and building standards are met
Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measurement and test equipment in the performance of duties
Set up and demonstrate pressure test as necessary to complete work packages and return systems to operational conditions
Fabricate mechanical components consistent with engineering specifications by utilizing standard maintenance and machine shop equipment
Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of non-plant facilities, buildings, enhances on site containers, mechanical equipment, systems, and components (including changing of light bulbs, general building maintenance, plumbing, and minor repairs)
Apply or assist in application of appropriate welding procedures in fabrication, assembly, and installation of piping and mechanical systems
Perform journeyman mechanical, welder, pipefitter, painter, and carpenter functions in the installation or removal or corrective or preventative maintenance, repair or modification of facility systems, equipment and components (e.g., conveyors, compressors, cranes, piping, pumps, and valves)
Perform emergency repairs to systems, equipment, and components; record as-found condition as well as repaired condition; and analyze system characteristics to determine cause of failure
Demonstrate and conduct required inspection and testing of equipment and components as necessary to complete work packages and ensure systems are returned to operational conditions
Assist vendors with performing mechanical maintenance tasks beyond project’s capability
Perform other collateral duties as assigned for project operations
May be assigned to function in temporary lead capacity
Must serve as an Emergency Response Team Member
May be required to perform Munitions Handler duties
May be required to obtain and maintain a CDL

Relocation Assistance Provided

This position is designated as a chemical duty position and is subject to the requirements of the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP). As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, urinalysis testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by Army Regulation 50-6. Chemical duties for this position are:

Require routine access to chemical surety materials
Are authorized to escort visitors to areas containing chemical surety materials
Control direct access to chemical surety material
Issue proximity cards, personal identification numbers (PINs), keys, combinations, biometric codes, or any other mechanism that provides direct access to chemical surety material
Are motor vehicle/material handling equipment operators involved in movement of chemical agents
Are operators of equipment that disassembles chemical munitions/containers or handle chemical surety materials during demilitarization operations

SDC at BGCAPP is subject to Army Regulations (AR 50-6 Chemical Surety Program and AR190-59 Unescorted Access Program) which govern persons performing work under the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) and unescorted Access Program (UAP). Eligibility to be placed in a CPRP or UAP position requires US citizenship. Employees must favorably complete a series of screenings to include but not limited to: a National Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC) security investigation, drug/alcohol testing and medical examination.

All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. Respiratory screening and the ability to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) may be required for this position. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the Blue Grass Army Depot is required.

Minimum Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

Completion of formal apprenticeship or similar accredited training program (such as vocational, trade, commercial, or military) in the mechanical field or journeyman certification and 4 years’ industrial mechanical maintenance experience in an operating demilitarization, chemical, power, processing, industrial service, or manufacturing plant in one or more of the following crafts: pipe fitter, boilermaker, welder, millwright, plant mechanic

Or

High school diploma or equivalent and 6 years’ experience in an operating demilitarization, chemical, power, processing, industrial service, or manufacturing plant in one or more of the following crafts: pipe fitter, boilermaker, welder, millwright, plant mechanic

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a United States or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) site access
Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment
Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any depot or BGCAPP drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement
Have thorough understanding of mechanical equipment operation, mechanical equipment maintenance requirements and restrictions imposed by safety and environmental regulations
Must be detail oriented and able to exercise good judgment in solving mechanical and equipment problems
Able to perform precision work such as equipment alignment, reverse run out alignment, close tolerance fitting, along with experience working with pumps and valves
Able to develop technical solutions to address maintenance related problems while minimizing cost and impact on schedule
Welders must maintain annual recertification
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a toxic or hazardous materials work environment
Experience in heavy industrial work environment
Proficiency in additional technical disciplines such as machinist or heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning
Understanding of hazardous materials, furnaces, scrubber systems, management procedures, and techniques
Considerable knowledge or experience making real time process or production decisions representing plant management
Experience with Explosive Detonation Technology (EDT) or chemical weapons demilitarization
