WHMC is looking for an experienced Pool Attendant/Instructor to join our team!
In support of Therapy and Aquatic services, the Aquatic Pool Attendant/Instructor provides instruction in water classes, monitors, educates patrons on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants and pool patrons. The Aquatic Pool Attendant/Instructor assists with scheduling and performs the related administrative duties; monitors office procedures; resolves problems through collaboration with pertinent contacts. The Aquatic Pool Attendant/Instructor maintains a clean and safety environment including but not limited to the pool, deck, lobby, locker rooms, mechanical room, and lobby. The Aquatic Pool Attendant/Instructor tests and adjusts pool chemicals and ensures safety and appropriate operation of pool equipment. The Aquatic Pool Attendant/Instructor performs cleaning, organizing, supply ordering, and work order entry. The Aquatic Pool Attendant/Instructor is responsible for managing competing demands, prioritizing tasks, and effectively organizing information to facilitate optimal operations and patron/patient care.

Position Details
Part Time
29 hours per pay period (two weeks)

Planning and Prioritizing
Is able to identify and prioritize a variety of support functions, i.e., stocking of supplies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and patient care.
Information Gathering
Assists the Director in data tracking and product research as requested.
Decision-Making
Is able to assist multiple staff in patient care delivery without interruption of care or compromising patient safety.
Is able to make lifesaving decisions related to pool standards.
Communication
Communicates with therapists regarding patient’s response to aquatic activity.
Communicates with Director regarding patron’s unusual response to aquatic activity.
Addresses patients’/patrons’ questions and concerns appropriately.
Technical Proficiency
Delivers and supervises exercises for patrons with appropriate safety and fitness knowledge.
Assists the therapist as requested.
Provides support to the staff including but not limited to cleaning, changing linens, monitoring equipment, ordering supplies, stocking supplies, filing, photocopying, scheduling, registration, and answering phones.
Performs any and all functions related to exercise class administration, with appropriate training and/or certification.
Performs any and all functions related to aquatic exercise program.
Is able to test and balance pool chemicals.
Is able to maintain and problem solve mechanical systems.
Teamwork
Escorts patients/patrons to the pool, as needed.
Actively participates in department and Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics marketing and promotional activities.
Quality
Participates in the quality improvement effort.
Personal Education
Actively pursues educational opportunities through staff in-services, literature, digital education, videos, and/or journals to maintain current perspective of the profession.
Work Effectiveness
Demonstrates the ability to care for a reasonable patron workload.
Reliability
Completes tasks assigned to perform in a timely manner.
Demonstrates flexibility in assuming new work responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
Appropriate interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, families, and staff and to perform activities requiring courtesy and tact.
CPR certified in AHA BLS or the ability to become certified within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Lifeguard certification.
Water Safety Instructor certification.
Aquatic Exercise Association certification.
Prior experience as a lifeguard.
Prior experience as a water instructor.

All Part-Time staff positions (less than 36 hours per pay period) will receive $1,000 as a sign-on initiative
